PERIODONTOLOGY

At our clinic, we understand the importance of early detection and prompt treatment of periodontal disease. While it can be silent in its initial stages, there are several warning signs to watch out for:

  • Red, swollen, or tender gums or pain / discomfort in your mouth.

  • Bleeding while brushing, flossing, or eating hard food.

  • Gums that are receding or pulling away from the teeth, causing the teeth to look longer than before.

  • Loose or separating teeth.

  • Pus between your gums and teeth.

  • Sores in your mouth.

  • Persistent bad breath.

  • A change in the way your teeth fit together when you bite.

  • A change in the fit of partial dentures.

Two main types of Periodontal disease associated with teeth:

Gingivitis:

This is the mildest form of gum disease, characterized by red, swollen gums that may bleed easily. Thankfully, gingivitis is reversible with professional treatment and excellent at-home oral care.

Periodontitis:

Untreated gingivitis can progress to periodontitis. Over time, plaque can extend below the gum line, leading to inflammation and breakdown of the tissues and one that support the teeth. This causes the gums to separate from the teeth, forming pockets that can become infected. As the disease advances, these pockets deepen, causing further destruction of gum tissue and bone. Ultimately, untreated periodontitis can result in loose teeth that may need to be removed.

Our experienced periodontist will thoroughly assess your condition and classify it based on its stage and grade, allowing us to determine the best course of action. Early diagnosis and treatment can make a significant difference in preserving your oral health and ensuring a beautiful smile for years to come. Trust our expert team to provide you with the finest periodontal care tailored to your unique needs.

Periodontal Disease Associated with Implants:

Peri-implantitis:

Similarly to teeth, periodontal disease can develop around implants. Initially this is in the form of peri-mucositis which is inflammation around the implants (swollen and red gums) and if let untreated can develop to peri-implantitis. This can result in bone loss around the implant(s) exposing them and making them more likely to become loose and fail. Our Periodontist has extensive training and specifically designed instruments to help treat such diseases and protect your implants.

Advanced Periodontal Procedures:

In certain cases, our highly skilled periodontist may recommend surgical procedures to address periodontal disease and its associated damage.

Gum Graft Surgery:

Gum recession can lead to exposed tooth roots, causing discomfort and potential bone loss. To counter this, we offer gum graft surgery, a procedure that covers the exposed root and helps prevent further recession and bone damage. During the surgery, your periodontist takes gum tissue from your palate or another donor source to cover the exposed root. Gum graft surgery can be performed for one or multiple teeth, offering relief from tooth sensitivity and enhancing the aesthetics of your smile.

Regenerative Procedures:

When periodontal disease has led to the loss of bone supporting your teeth, regenerative procedures may help reverse some of the damage and stimulate the growth of lost bone and tissue. In this procedure, the gum tissue is gently folded back to remove disease-causing bacteria. Membranes, bone grafts, or tissue-stimulating proteins may be used to encourage your body's natural ability to regenerate bone and tissue.

Dental Crown Lengthening:

For individuals with a "gummy" smile where teeth may appear short due to excessive gum tissue, our periodontist reshapes the excess gum and bone tissue to expose more of the natural tooth. This can be done for a single tooth to even your gum line, or for multiple teeth to reveal a beautiful, broad smile. It may also be recommended in preparation for restorative or cosmetic dental procedures, as it adjusts the gum and bone levels to expose more of the tooth leading to a successful.
